Winners interview - Nordic Combined, Gundersen Warsteiner FIS World Cup

Frenzels dramatic day

Germanys Eric Frenzel finished at second place because he fell 50 meters before the finish line.

- I tripped, and Petter Tande raced past me to the first place. Untill that I was very pleased to my competition, I didn’t have any specific tactic, because I had so big gap for the next competitioner behind me.

German’s giant jump at the ski jumping was almost the hill record.

- After I had glided over 135 meters and I saw how far I had jumped, I was totally suprised. Of course I was very happy for that kind of dream jump.

The leader of the World Cup, Ronny Ackermann, was pleased for his third place, because he was ill.

-I had enough energy for the skiing part, but I would propably have had better result, if I had had someone skiing near me, Ackerman told
The winner of the day, norwegian Petter Tande didn’t believe he would reach the first place, because Eric Franzel was right behind.
- My jump went so much better than in rehesals, so I’m satisfied with it. But I didn’t believe I was so near winning the race. I followed Ronnys times and I tried to ski at the same speed as him. When I heard that Ronny had left behind, I relaxed a little, so that I would have energy for tomorrow race.

Tomorrows hurricane sprint doesn’t get the trio very excited.

- I don’t like the whole race, it has too short time for recovering and warm-ups between ski jumping and skiing, Tande says.

Final results for the Combined:

1. Petter Tande

2. Eric Frenzel +7.1

3. Ronny Ackermann +29.2
