50 000 spectators in Lahti Ski Games

50 000 spectators visited Salpausselkä during the weekend.

81st Lahti Ski Games gathered nearly 40 000 spectators on Saturday and on Sunday about 10 000 winter sport fans visited the Games.

Second competition day starts with nordic combined

The second and this year the last competition day of the Lahti Ski Games started with the nordic combined sprint ski jumping. Thousands of spectators are arriving to the stadium to see how their favourites will succeed.

In the afternoon the nordic combined hurricane sprint with 7.5 km will take place. And at the end of the day the special ski jumping competition will be held, which is also the first part of the Nordic Tournament.

Fireworks at the Lahti ski stadiumThe first day of the 81st Lahti Ski Games was completed with the Austrians winning the team ski jumping competition. During the day about 38 000 spectators visited the stadium on a lovely winters day.

The highlight of the day was the traditional fireworks display which was sponsored by the local telecommunications company PHP, which is celebrating its 100th year.

The competition on sunday will start at 11.45 with the nordic combined sprint and later in the afternoon the opening competition of ski jumping Nordic Tournament will take place.

Finland was left third in the ski jumping team competition

The Austrian ski jumping team on the podiumThe Finnish ski jumping team qualified third by leaving 52 points behind of the winning Austrian team. Norwegian team qualified second, which was 15 points behind the Austrians.

Austrias Martin Koch told after the competition that the team is unbeatable because they are all in such a good shape or getting there. Björn Einar Romören of Norway thought that the team had a better feeling than in Torin, where they won bronze in the team competition. “After loosing the first place to Austria, beating Finland was a consolation”, Romören said with a smirk.
